My family and my boyfriends family’s going on a cruise this summer to celebrate my birthday. Where would the best place to go on the cruise? And would we make stops to different places? Oh and also what are on cruise ships?

If the cruise is in colder climates (Baltic sea, Alaska, New England) do it during the summer. If warmer climates, Bahamas, Caribbean, winter is best.

Wow! Lots of very basic questions. I suggest that you start checking out the various cruise company web sites — Carnival, Princess, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Holland America, Celebrity — to get a general idea about the ships and where they go. Then, go meet with a travel agent in your area who books a lot of cruises! A good travel agent costs you nothing, but can help you find the cruise that best meets your budget, preferences, expectations, and schedule. There is a HUGE variety of ships and cruises!

Sounds like you need to do some research. Your library or bookstore has books about cruising that will describe the myriad of choices you will need to make before you go to a travel agent to book your cruise.

Summer is hurricane season in the Caribbean, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t cruise there. However, it will be more expensive than at times other than summer. Alaska is a popular summer itinerary. The Med is nice, but again, it’s high season.

Yes, you make stops in different places. If you read the descriptions of the different ships, either on line at the cruise lines’ websites or in a book, you will learn what is "on" the cruise ships. You will have a very different experience on different cruise ships, which is why it’s important to do some research beforehand. It’s part of the fun of planning a cruise, so enjoy!
