Live Folder Icons

With Vista, you can get a good idea of what is in a folder without opening it. Instead of seeing a typical folder icon, you will actually see folder content. Not just what file types are included, but in many cases the images or files themselves. To really see these you may need to up the size of your folder icons in the Views menu within Windows Explorer. Click on it and you will see a vertical slider where you can go from a tile view, to a details view, to a list view, then as you go up, you can increase the size of the icons from small, to medium, to large, to extra large. By using the slider, you can actually adjust the size of the icons just how you want them. The larger, the easier images like those below are to view.

By default, this setting will only apply to the folder that is open when you adjust the view. To change this behavior, click on “Organize” and select “Folder and Search Options”. Click the “View” tab and then press the “Apply To Folders” button in order to make all windows appear as you have configured the current window. Change your mind? Right alongside that button is a “Reset Folders” button that will undo this change.
