More Notes on Vista's Search Service

PCs running Vista as clients of Windows Server 2008 systems will be able to rely on the indices generated by the server instead of having to perform all of the indexing on their own (as is the case win any previous version of Windows Server).

Windows Server 2008 does included the Windows Server 2003 Indexing service for backwards compatibility purposes, but it is recommended that you rely on the more powerful Search service instead.

Another cool thing about the Windows Search Service is that it is extensible to support the indexing of other types of documents it would not otherwise be able to handle. for example, Adobe offers one for its PDF format.

While the Search service can index files for which it doesn’t have specific filters, it just does the best it can and performance will be slower.

A handful of free filters are also provided here: http://www.citeknet.com

Anyone discover any others out there?
