Hiding and Restoring Hidden Updates

If you decide not to install an update, it can be annoying to see it appear on the update list forevermore. Particularly if you have configured Windows Update to notify you when updates are available for download or installation, you don't want to be constantly told about something you don't want. These situations can be circumvented by hiding the update.

hiding the update requires elevated privileges, but you can hide it simply by right-clicking it in the "View Available Updates" window and selecting "Hide Update". Once hidden, you may need to hit F5 (refresh) to see the hiding of the update take place.

If in the future you decide you wish to unhide a hidden update, open Windows Update and click "Restore Hidden Updates". Here you will be presented with a list of updates you have hidden and you can simply select those you wish to restore and press the "Restore" button (which again does require elevated privileges so you can expect a UAC prompt as indicated by the shield icon on the "Restore" button).
